Newlyn harbour is one of the largest fishing ports in Britain in terms of value of fish sold, and is a major centre for distribution of high value fish and shell-fish to the Continent. Fishing is undertaken by a mix of locally-based beamers, side trawlers and static gear boats. The Harbour is owned and managed by the Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commission. Newlyn harbour has been designated as a harbour of refuge and the RNLI Penlee lifeboat is based at Newlyn. |
